Another Anfield Slip-Up

Well, here we are again. Liverpool dropped points at home, drawing 2-2 with Brighton. It's becoming a frustrating pattern, isn't it? For a team with title ambitions, you simply can't afford these kinds of slip-ups, especially at Anfield.

Brighton, credit where it's due, came to play. They didn't just sit back and absorb pressure. Simon Adingra put them ahead early, catching Alisson Becker off his line with a clever strike. That goal, coming in the 20th minute, really stunned the crowd. Anfield went quiet, and you could feel the nerves creep in.

Thing is, Liverpool showed fight. They always do. Mohamed Salah, who else, bagged a brace. His first, a penalty just before halftime, brought them level. His second, an absolute peach in the 65th minute, looked like it would be the winner. But then Lewis Dunk happened.

Dunk's Late Equalizer Stings

I mean, come on. You're 2-1 up, the clock is ticking down, and you concede a soft goal. Dunk, a centre-back, pops up in the 87th minute and just slots it past Alisson. It was a well-worked free-kick, sure, but the defending looked a bit statuesque for a team chasing the Premier League trophy. That's the kind of goal that absolutely kills momentum.

And that's my hot take: Liverpool's midfield looks a bit too exposed sometimes. Against a team like Brighton, who are quick on the counter and intelligent with their movement, you need more steel in the middle. Alexis Mac Allister worked hard, as did Dominik Szoboszlai, but they just couldn't shut down every avenue. Roberto De Zerbi's side managed 13 shots, which is a lot for an away team at Anfield.

Look, Jürgen Klopp will be fuming. Losing two points at home against a mid-table side after being in a winning position? That's title-losing form, not title-winning form. Manchester City won their game, so that gap at the top just got a little wider. You can't give City an inch, and Liverpool just gave them a whole yard.

I'm telling you, if Liverpool doesn't tighten up defensively in these kinds of games, their title challenge is over before Christmas. They need to find that ruthless streak again. Next week's game against Wolves is suddenly looking a lot more important than it should.
